David Kirkland and Ernest Servantes are the powerhouse duo behind Burnt Bean Co., one of Texas’s most celebrated barbecue joints. Hailing from Seguin, Texas, the pair met on the competition BBQ circuit where Ernest, a seasoned pitmaster and Food Network’s Chopped Grill Masters champion, took David under his wing. Known as “Super Dave,” Kirkland quickly became a standout in his own right, and together, the two formed a winning team that dominated cook-offs across the state.

In 2020, they channeled their competitive fire into a brick-and-mortar venture with the launch of Burnt Bean Co. The restaurant has since earned widespread acclaim, including a James Beard semifinalist nod, a spot on Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ Joints, and recognition in the Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand list. Combining traditional Central Texas barbecue with Mexican-American roots, the duo brings bold flavors, innovation, and heart to everything they serve.
